The Ethniki Odos 51/Εθνική Οδός 51 (Greek for National road 51 ' ) is an important road link in northeast Greece in the region of Western Thrace and the Regional District of Evros. It combines Alexandroupolis on the Aegean coast in the south with Ormenio on the north by the Bulgarian border. It leads over long distances along the course of the river Evros ( Maritsa ) on its western side, near the Turkish border ( midstream ). The entire route of the National Road 51 is congruent with the European route 85 During the construction of the Highway 2 (A2, Egnatia Odos ) was the national road 51 developed as a so-called transverse axis of the running east -west highway. It includes after removing one lane with emergency lane without separate carriageways.

In the publication of the numbering and routing as the Greek motorways by the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works in January 2008, provides for the National Road 51 through the planned motorway 21 (A21 ) to replace.
