Güttenbach is a market town with 921 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Güssing in Burgenland in Austria. The Croatian city name of the municipality is Pinkovac, the Hungarian name Pinkóc.

Geography

The municipality is located in southern Burgenland in the northern part of the district of Güssing. Güttenbach is the only place in the community.

History

In Güttenbach over 200 silver coins were found from Velemér type that are chronologically dated to the time of the Boii - invasions. From the 4th century BC ( Early La Tène ) the Boii migrated from their original settlement areas between the Rhine, Main and Danube to the south and southeast. The type names have the coins from the Fund in 1899 at the nearby Velem ( Hungarian county Vas ) containing 60 coins. In the coins of Güttenbach still is partly a overprinting of Noricum coins detectable. Whether the hoard was a landfill from cultic reasons or a place to hide in times of war, today can not be determined with certainty.

80 % of the population belong to the Croat minority in Burgenland, populated this space for around 450 years. Güttenbach is no Croatian resettlement, the first documentary mentioned in 1427, then German -Hungarian place was populated in the 16th century by the Croats and assimilated later. The place was from the year 1524 part of the possessions of the nobility Batthyány family was like the rest of Burgenland to 1920/21 Hungary ( German West Hungary). Since 1898, had to be used because of Magyarization the government in Budapest the Hungarian name Pinkócz. After the end of World War II German West Hungary was awarded in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919 Austria after tough negotiations. The place belongs since 1921 to the newly founded State of Burgenland (see also history of Burgenland ). Market town is Güttenbach since 1986.

The distribution of seats (15 seats) in the municipal council is 4 SPÖ, ÖVP 11, FPÖ 0, Green 0 0 lists and other mandates.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was granted on 14 June 1987.

Güttenbach has two twin towns: Malinska in Croatia ( on the island of Krk) and Szentpéterfa in Hungary.

Culture and sights

The Roman Catholic parish church was built Güttenbach 1929/30, designed by the architect Karl Holey.

The fort is a villa-like building that was built in the late 19th century. Before the castle grounds is a modern chapel.
