Gyula Káté

Gyula Kate ( born February 3, 1982 in Budapest) is a Hungarian boxer. Kate was repeated medalist at world championships and European championships and participants in the 2004 Olympic Games, in 2008 and 2012.

Career

Youth & Junior

In the field of youth ( U17) Kate third in the European Championships in 1998 and at youth level ( U19) was world champion in 2000 in the featherweight ( 57kg - ).

2001 - 2005

2001 Kate took for the first time at the world championships, but already retired in the first fight against the eventual bronze medalist Majid Jelili, Sweden ( 41:25 ) from. The following year he competed at the European Championships and failed in the Lightweight ( - 60kg) in the first fight on later European champion Alexander Maletin, Russia ( RSC 3 ).

At the World Championships in 2003 Kate won his first international success with the bronze medal. With this placement, he also qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, where he did in the first fight against Baik Jong- sub, South Korea ( 30:23 ) was eliminated.

After Kate had won the 2005 European Championships with a final victory against Carmine Cirillo, Italy ( 38:23 ), in the light welterweight ( 64kg - ) he had to be at the world championships in the first fight the Chinese Chen Tongzhoi ( 23:16 ) beaten give.

2006 - 2010

2006 Kate won back the EU Championships with a final victory over the bronze medalist from Athens Boris Georgiev, Bulgaria ( AB 4), and won the bronze medal at the European Championships by a semi-final defeat against Oleg Komissarow, Russia ( RSC 4 ).

The following year, Kate was third in the European Championships and failed at the World Championships after victories among others against John Joe Joyce, Ireland ( 32:17 ), in the second round at eventual runners Gennady Kovalev. In order to reach the 2008 or so missed qualifying for the Olympic Games, Kate took in 2008 at the European Olympic Qualification Tournament in Pescara part and fought his way to the finals a quota place at the Olympic Games in Beijing in the light welterweight.

Playing in front of the Olympic took Kate still on the EU championships where he beat the Olympian John Joe Joyce, Ireland ( 23:7 ), but in the final Frankie Gavin, England ( 16:4 ) was defeated and thus won the silver medal. At the Olympics he met in the first fight back to John Joe Joyce, but had this time in the cold and lost with 9:5.

Also at the European Championships in 2008 Kate got back to John Joe Joyce and could him this time in the semi-final defeat (8:2). In the final he lost due to an injury in the first round against Eduard Hambardsumjan, Armenia, and so won the silver medal. The following year, he reached the same placement at the EU Championships with a final defeat against Bradley Saunders, England ( 13:3 ), and also the 2009 World Championships went for Kate with a medal win at the end. After victories over Apichet Sansit, Thailand ( 13:4 ), Abdur Rahim, Bulgaria ( 11:2 ), Myke Carvalho, Brazil ( 10:8 ), and Rustam Swajew, Kazakhstan ( 14:9 ), and a semi-final defeat against Frankie Gomez, USA ( 8:7 ), he won the bronze medal.

At the European Championships in 2010 Kate won after victories among others against Vincenzo Mangiacapre, Italy ( 9:4 ), and a final defeat Hratschik Jawachjan, Armenia (3:2), again the silver medal.

2011 - present

At the European Championships of 2011, however, he retired against Vincenzo Mangiacapre, Italy ( 22:14 ), in the quarter- finals. In the same year, Kate was at the World Championships with victories over Yevgeny Romaschkewitsch, Belarus ( 24:14 ), Yves Ulysse, Canada ( 27:17 ), and Danijar Jeleussinow, Kazakhstan ( 17:11 ) and a quarter-final defeat against eventual champions Éverton Lopes, Brazil ( AB 3 ), qualify with a 5th place for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. There, however, he lost in the second round against Vincenzo Mangiacapre.
