Hautevelle

Hautevelle is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Hautevelle situated at an altitude of 262 m above sea level, eight kilometers west-northwest of Luxeuil -les- Bains and approximately 26 kilometers north- northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the northern part of the department, a slightly elevated position on the northern edge of the valley of the Lanterne.

The area of ​​7.78 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside in the Lanterne. The central part of the territory is occupied by a broad trough extending in a west-east direction. It is drained by the Roge, which is east of the village to the 24 -acre Etang du Beuchot dammed. The Alluvialniederung is on average 240 m and has a width of about two kilometers wide. It is used primarily for agricultural purposes.

To the north, the land rises gently to the wooded heights of the Grandes Revenues (316 m), which form the watershed to the Valley of the Semouse. They consist of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). In some places, is also evident limestone of Middle Triassic. South of the trough passes over an approximately 60 m high terrain level to wooded height of Bois la Dame. It is constructed of red sandstone of the Lower Triassic. With 334 m find the highest mountains of Hautevelle is achieved.

At the hamlet of Le Hautevelle Beuchot (247 m) is on the western shore of the Etang du Beuchot. Neighboring communities of Hautevelle are Saint-Loup- sur- Semouse in the north, Fontaine- lès- Luxeuil and Luxeuil- les -Bains in the east, and Breuches Ormoiche in the south and Francalmont in the West.

History

Remains of Gallo- Roman period indicate a very early settlement of the area. Is first mentioned Hautevelle as Alta Villa in 1256th From a later time, the names Auteville ( 1362 ), Autevelle ( 1442 ) and Altevelle ( 1481 ) have survived. The place name derives from the Latin words alta (high) and villa (estate ). In the Middle Ages Hautevelle was an enclave in the Free County of Burgundy to Barrois. It was the field of Saint- Loup allocated which was under the Lords of Faucogney. Hautevelle was the site of a Benedictine priory in 1407 mentioned small. In the hamlet Le Beuchot was since the 17th century, a blast furnace. Today Hautevelle is a member of the 12 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Val de Semouse.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Didier in 1874 rebuilt in neo-Gothic style. It houses two altars (18th century), statues from the 17th century and a silver reliquary ( 18th century). The former Hermitage La Logeotte was used as a farm.

Population

With 255 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is Hautevelle to the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 624 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1990s.

Economy and infrastructure

Hautevelle was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In Le Beuchot there is a wire factory, which emerged from a forging. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Saint -Loup- sur- Semouse after Breuches. Further road links exist with Fontaine- lès- Luxeuil and Francalmont.
