Hayle ( Cornish: Heyl ) is a small town and a municipality in the former Penwith District of Cornwall in England and has a cargo port.

The municipality was created when this is split off from a part of the former municipality of Phillack. In 1935, it merged with Phillack back together and in 1937 came from other areas of the municipality of St Erth added. Today Hayle on the west by St Ives, on the south by St Erth, Gwinear - Gwithian to the east and to the north by the Bristol Channel.

History

The area at the mouth of the Hayle River has been inhabited since the Bronze Age. Today Hayle was only built during the industrial revolution in the 18th century. Another settlement from the Iron Age was found on a hill above the river mouth. Trade relations to the Mediterranean could be detected by ceramic finds.

Although the Romans never fully conquered Cornwall, it is assumed that the rectangular graveyard of St Uny 's Church at Lelant was once a Roman fortress. After the retreat of the Romans, there was a large influx of Irish missionaries, according to which some places are named in Cornwall today. A number of inscriptions and stones are evidence of it yet. Reports on the Saints Samson and Petroc indicate that there was a small port in Hayle in the 6th century.

Middle Ages

The Domesday Book reported no major settlement in the present territory of the town. Arrested in the historic Doomsday Book are the mansion Conardition and the mansion Concerton, which was located near Gwithian. In the 13th century Concerton passed into the possession of the Arundel family. In the early 19th century it was sold to the Cornish Copper Company.
