Hempstead, New York

Nassau County

The Town of Hempstead is one of three Towns in Nassau County ( New York). It is bordered to the north by North Hempstead, Oyster Bay to the east and to the west by New York City.

Hempstead comprises approximately 495 sq km and has about 760,000 inhabitants. This makes it one of the largest Towns in New York and more densely populated than most American cities.

From the Garden City district of the film and television actor Telly Savalas was born ( 1922-1994 ).

Villages and hamlets

Hempstead consists of 22 " villages " ( " villages " ) and 37 " hamlets " ( hamlets ). The better-known are:

  • Cedarhurst (village)
  • Floral Park (village)
  • Garden City ( town) (Part of Floral Park and Garden City include the Town of North Hempstead )

The city of Long Beach, which is completely enclosed, is not part of Hempstead.

The " Five Towns "

" Five Towns " ( " five cities " ) are an informal grouping of villages and hamlets in the area of Hempstead on the south shore of Long Iceland. Contrary to the name, none of the places of a town. The " five cities " include the villages of Lawrence and Cedarhurst, the hamlets of Woodmere and Inwood, and "The Hewlett's " ( from the villages of Hewlett Bay Park, Hewlett Harbor and Hewlett Neck and the hamlet of Hewlett existing), to come even Woods Burgh (Nassau County ).

Sports
