Henry G. Burleigh

Henry Gordon Burleigh ( born June 2, 1832 in Canaan, New Hampshire; † August 10, 1900 in Whitehall, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1883 and 1887 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Henry Gordon Burleigh visited community schools. The family moved in 1846 to New York and settled in Ticonderoga in Essex County. There he went to the mining of iron ore, but also pursued business with timber and coal. In addition, he worked in transportation. He served in the years 1864 and 1865 the post of Supervisor in the Town of Ticonderoga. In 1867 he moved to Whitehall in Washington County. He sat in 1876 in the New York State Assembly. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. As a delegate, he participated in the 1880, 1884, 1888, 1892 and 1896 to the Republican National Conventions.

In the congressional elections of 1882 for the 48th Congress of Burleigh was in the 17th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Walter A. Wood on March 4, 1883. In 1884 he was a candidate in the 18th Election District of New York for the 49th Congress. After a successful election, he resigned on March 4, 1885 the successor of Frederick A. Johnson. In his re-election bid in 1886, he suffered a defeat and retired after March 3, 1887 the Congress of.

On August 10, 1900, he died in Whitehall and was then buried in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Ticonderoga.
