Henry I of Castile

Henry I (* April 14, 1204 in Valladolid, † June 6, 1217 in Palencia ) was King of Castile from 1214 to 1217.

He was the son of King Alfonso VIII, whom he succeeded in 1214 under the tutelage of the Count of Lara on the throne. But he was, in 1217 killed by a falling roof tiles down. He was succeeded by his sister Berenguela of Castile that their claim to the throne then at her son Ferdinand III. ceded.

Henry I married Princess Mafalda of Portugal 1215, daughter of Sancho I, King of Portugal and his wife Dulce Barcelona. Since they were both very young, the marriage was not consummated and Henry died without children.
