Heonjong of Joseon

Heonjong (* 1827 as I Hwan, † 1849) was the twenty-fourth king of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea from 1834 to 1849.

Life

He was the grandson of King Sunjo. His father Prince Munjo, with the posthumous name Ikjong already died at the age of 21, before he became king. With seven years Heonjong king ascended the throne, but the power had his grandmother Queen Sunweon.

When King Heonjong age of 14 took over the reign, his grandmother still mixed into the business of government. At the age of 19 years (1846 ) he forbade all contact with his officials with the grandmother.

At the age of 22 years the king died suddenly.
