Myeongjong of Joseon

Myeongjong (* 1534, † 1567) was the 13th king of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea. He was the second son of Jung Jong and his wife, Queen Munjeong, and ruled from 1545 until his death.

After the death of his half brother Injong Myeongjong ascended the throne was twelve years old. As he thus still was too young at first took over his mother's affairs.

At that time there were two by opposing camps. One (the " greater Yun ") was led by Injongs uncle, the "lesser Yun " from Uncle Myeongjongs ( Yun Won- hyung ). 1544, after the death of Jung Jong, indeed took Injongs side power, by protecting his mother the smaller Yun was not smashed. After Injongs the smaller Yun took power, many supporters of the larger Yun, also the leader, were executed.

As a result, managed Yun Won- hyung expand his personal power, until he could be 1563 head of government. Meanwhile Myeongjongs mother was the effective administrator of a strict and often cruel -run empire. Munjeong remained after Myeongjongs age of majority in their position.

After her death, but took over but Myeongjong governance, and slew his uncle. He allowed high corruption in government circles, while his kingdom was always unstable to invasion by Jurchens, Japanese and rebels.

He tried to reform the parliamentary sphere, but died only two years after taking power without male offspring. He was succeeded on the throne the nephew Seonjo.
