Sunjo of Joseon

Sunjo (* 1790 as Yi Gong, † 1834) was the twenty-third king of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea from 1800 to 1834.

Life

He was the second son of King Jeongjo and his concubine Subin. In 1800, he mounted after the death of his father King Jeongjo at the age of eleven years the throne. In 1802 he married Kim of Andong, posthumously known as Queen Sunwon, a daughter of Kim Josun, who was a leader of the Andong Kim clan. The widowed Queen Jeongsun, the second queen of King Yeongjo reigned as regent until 1803.
