Hergatz

Hergatz is a municipality in the Bavarian- Swabian district of Lindau ( Bodensee). It was established in its present form in the late 1970s as part of the local government reform of the Altgemeinden Wohmbrechts and Maria -Thann.

Geography

Hergatz located in the western Allgäu. The municipality is located in a height range of 550-630 meters above sea level.

The districts Grod, Beuren, Möllen, Wohmbrechts and Hergatz are on the main road 12 Munich -Lindau, about 20 km from Lindau. The B 12 forms in Wohmbrechts the through-road.

The districts Grod, storage roof and crafts are run on the Upper Argen. This river, the form north of Oberstaufen several streams, flows through the municipal area, taking in Neuravensburg the Lower Argen on and opens between Kressbronn and Langenargen in Lake Constance. History

The community Hergatz arose on 1 May in 1978 the merger of the municipalities Wohmbrechts and Maria -Thann.

Hergatz 1349 was mentioned for the first time. At that time possessed by the Lords of Ellhofen that Schlaich of Schreckelberg the Bailiwick Wohmbrechts and Wangen citizens the ownership and right to rule. The latter were, together with Wohmbrechts, the home team in the field of Empire City cheeks. The road between Isny to Lindau ( road salt or present Federal Road 12) performs Wohmbrechts and Hergatz and coined these places. It was also used by pilgrims since Wohmbrechts was a much visited place of pilgrimage until the 18th century. In 1739 the bones of who was beatified nun Richildis were buried in the parish church.

At the Salt Road in Wohmbrechts which runs to Lake Constance via Kempten, Isny and cheeks, was the last Salzfaktorei. In 1853 the railway line Munich -Lindau was completed, which also runs through Wohmbrechts and Hergatz. 1890 in the city Hergatz cheeks and the Upper Swabian countryside was connected to this transport line and made the place an important transportation hub. Wohmbrechts

Maria -Thann

Maria -Thann was first known only by the name Tann ( e) ( settlement in the fir forest ). It was not until the 15th century began the pilgrimage, the place got its name probably additive Mary. This, however, is secured only since the 19th century.

The first definite mention of Maria -Thann there in Liber taxationis the diocese of Constance ( ecclesia in fir). However Eberhardus de Tanna in 1987 and Bertholdo princerna ( cupbearer ) de fir in 1216 do not refer to Mary -Thann. These were Upper Swabian Reichsministeriale whose naming of the castle fir, northeast of Ravensburg, declined. In 1353 there were 24 homes in the settlement.

Cheeks was the beginning of the 16th century, the high jurisdiction over Maria -Thann and Wohmbrechts. This created Wangen captaincy Thann - Wohmbrechts who went to the Bavarian Kingdom cheeks in 1802. Cheeks became an official city in 1810 in Württemberg, Maria -Thann and Wohmbrechts remained Bavarian.

In 1865, the municipality Thann ( Maria) 'was officially renamed Maria -Thann.

Wohmbrechts

The former castle and the church of St. George can be visited. At the B 12 is the former salt warehouse. In the Palace of Peter Paul Lingg is housed, among other pizzeria.

Maria -Thann

St. Mary's Church, a pilgrimage church with a green onion dome, is one of the oldest churches in the Allgäu region, is the origin of the parish of Mary -Thann.

And 14 February 2000 was the church Linde from the 18th century, which had to be made at the church. The remains can still be seen in Maria -Thann.

Syrgenstein

In Syrgenstein there is the English Cemetery and the Syrgenstein lock that can not be visited as tourist attractions.

Muthen

Regular events
