Hérimoncourt

Hérimoncourt is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté. It is the capital of the canton in the arrondissement of Montbéliard Hérimoncourt.

Geography

Hérimoncourt is located on 365 m, about 10 km southeast of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The church, a former street village, extends into the northern foothills of the Jura Mountains, in the valley of England, which is cut into the plateaus of the Jura. The place is located near the border with Switzerland.

The area of ​​7.29 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the northern French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the Talniederung of England, which has a width of approximately 500 meters. The Gland drains the area north to the Doubs. Is flanked on both sides of the valley around 100 m high steep slopes, which are traversed particularly in the southern part also of rocks. The slopes and plateaus are broken down by various Taleinschnitte, but these usually show no above-ground rivers. To the west of the municipality of soil ranges on the Tabular Jura plateau of Mouterot (502 m) and Thulay (up to 500 m). In the east, the land rises to the plateau of Abbévillers with the forest areas Bois de la Bouloye ( to 575 m) and Forêt Hollard. In the clearing Pré au Sire in the Forêt Hollard the highest elevation of Hérimoncourt is achieved with 578 m.

To Hérimoncourt include the districts:

Neighboring communities of Hérimoncourt are Seloncourt and Vandoncourt in the north, Abbévillers in the east, and Meslières Roche- lès- Blamont in the south and Thulay in the West.

History

The territory of Hérimoncourt was settled very early. On the heights of Vieilles Vignes and Mouterot various tools ( Silexsteine ​​, other cutting tools and an ax from the Neolithic period ) and several tumuli were discovered. At La Bouloye 1856 two standing stones were found. Further evidence comes from the Burgundy and the Merovingian period.

Is first mentioned Hérimoncourt in 1188 under the name Arynmoneourt. In the course of time, changed the spelling on Erimoncort ( 1189 ), Irmencuort ( 1241 ), Herimoncort ( 1339 ) and Erimoncour (1699 ) to the present name. Since its first mention Hérimoncourt belonged to the rule Blamont, which was under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard. The ecclesiastical jurisdiction has held the monastery Belchamp. In 1282, the rule Blamont went from Montbéliard in the possession of the Lords of Neuchâtel on. For the 14th century a local noble family is busy. After Hérimoncourt was 1506 again came under the suzerainty of the Count of Montbeliard, 1541 the Reformation was introduced.

Under the incidence of the Guises ( 1587/88 ) and during the Thirty Years' War ( especially in the period 1633-1642 ) Hérimoncourt suffered greatly. As part of the rule Blamont, which formed one of the four gentlemen of the Principality of Montbéliard and was annexed in 1699 by France, Hérimoncourt 1748 came contractually finally to France.

Attractions

In the village is a Reformed and a Catholic church. The Catholic Church of Saint- Pierre -et -Paul was built in several stages from 1882 to 1925. From an elevated position, the Chateau was built in the early 20th century Pierre Peugeot, whose style of an English stately home is recalled. Population

With 3683 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Hérimoncourt belongs to the medium-sized municipalities in the department of Doubs. From 1850 to 1900, the population in the course of industrialization showed rapid growth. With just under 3800 people, the population reached the preliminary peak around 1900. Then followed a period of stagnation and after 1930 a decline of 14%. Significant growth (23%), especially in the period from 1975 to 1990, it was recorded. With nearly 4000 inhabitants, the previous high was reached at the beginning of the 1990s. Since then, the population has declined slightly again. The settlement area of Hérimoncourt has grown together today almost completely with that of Seloncourt.

Economy and infrastructure

Already at the beginning of the 19th century Hérimoncourt developed into an industrial site. The industrial and commercial areas are concentrated in the valley of England in Terre -Blanche and La Chapotte.

Hérimoncourt is considered the cradle of the Peugeot family. Here the mid-18th century were already established the first workshops in the fields of metal processing and textiles. A factory of the Peugeot group, which specialized in the production of electric-powered craft tools, had to close its operation in 2001. Among the most important employers in the church today is one of Faurecia, produces a branch of the Peugeot group, filters and exhaust systems. There are also several smaller companies in the fields of mechanics, woodworking and electrical industry. In addition, there are various companies that are active in the service sector as well as numerous shops of retail for your everyday needs. Hérimoncourt is the site of a College and three medical and educational institutions.

With the opening of the tram from Montbéliard to Hérimoncourt in 1887 the town was connected to the network of public transport, but the operation of the line was abandoned in 1932. Today Hérimoncourt part of the community association Communauté d' Agglomà du Pays de Montbéliard.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road D34, which runs from Audi Court to Porrentruy. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 10 km. Further road links exist with Vandoncourt, Glay and Thulay. With Audi Court and the City of Montbéliard Hérimoncourt is connected by a bus.
