Seloncourt

Seloncourt is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Seloncourt is located on 340 m, about 7 km southeast of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The church, a former street village, extends south of the basin of Montbeliard, Talniederung of England shortly before its confluence with the Doubs, in the northern foothills of the Jura.

The area of ​​7.92 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the northern French Jura. The main part of the territory occupied by the Talniederung of England, which opens to the north- west to the valley of the Doubs. Flanked the 500 m wide valley of plateaus that are passed partly under arable and meadow land, partly by forest. They are divided by various dry valleys, including the Combe Guenot and the Combe Peugeot in the east and the valley of Bondeval in the south. To the north the municipality area extends to the Vraimont (415 m ) to the south in the forested area of Essart Bourguignon, in the 483 meters, the highest elevation of Seloncourt is achieved, and to the southeast to the edge of the Forêt Hollard ( to 430 m). These heights form the Northern Slope of the Tabular Jura plateaus.

Neighboring communities of Seloncourt are Audi Dasle Court and in the north, Vandoncourt in the east, Hérimoncourt, Thulay and Bondeval in the south and in the west Valentigney.

History

The first written mention of Seloncourt took place in 1170 in a deed to the monastery Belchamp. Seloncourt formed a fief under the sovereignty of the Counts of Montbéliard. In 1282 it was separated from the county and got to the rule Blamont. With this, the village came in the 16th century, again under the sovereignty of the Counts of Montbéliard. As part of the rule Blamont, which formed one of the four gentlemen of the Principality of Montbéliard and was annexed in 1699 by France, Seloncourt 1748 came contractually finally to France.

Middle of the 19th century witnessed Seloncourt a significant economic recovery through the introduction of the watch industry, whose products especially watches, alarm clocks and counted. With the opening of the tram from Montbéliard to Hérimoncourt in 1887 the town was connected to the network of public transport, but the operation of the line was abandoned in 1932. Today Seloncourt part of the community association Communauté d' Agglomà du Pays de Montbéliard.

  • The old and the new church of Seloncourt are very close to each other. With 5924 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Seloncourt one of the larger communities of the department of Doubs. From 1850 to 1911, the population showed a continuous growth. Further road links exist with Valentigney Bondeval, Dasle and Vandoncourt. With Audi Court and the City of Montbéliard Seloncourt is connected by a bus.
