Thulay

Thulay is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Thulay is located on 505 m, 11 km south-southeast of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the northern Jura, on a spur of the Tabular Jura plateau of Blamont, west of Taleinschnitts of England.

The area of ​​2.23 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the northern French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by a broad ridge, which gradually rises to the high plateau of Blamont to the southwest. With 541 meters, the highest elevation of Thulay is reached at the edge of the forest above the village. Is flanked this height the west by a valley that extends down to Seloncourt, but no above-ground rivers shows, and on the east by the valley section of England and his short Seitentälchen. To the north, the municipality's area extends beyond the here predominantly forested ridge to Mouterot.

Neighboring communities of Thulay are Seloncourt in the north, the east Hérimoncourt, Roches- lès- Blamont in the south and Bondeval in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Thulay in the year 1170. It formed an outdoor patio of the convent Belchamp. Since the Middle Ages Thulay belonged to the rule Blamont. After the village had come in 1506 under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard, the Reformation was introduced. As part of the rule Blamont, which formed one of the four gentlemen of the Principality of Montbéliard and was annexed in 1699 by France, Thulay 1748 came contractually finally to France. Today, the village belongs to the municipality of Communauté de communes Association des Balcons du Lomont.

Population

With 223 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Thulay one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1911 133 people were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1970s again. Since then, the population has doubled.

Economy and infrastructure

Thulay was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has changed thanks to its attractive location into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the agglomeration Montbéliard.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road, leading from Hérimoncourt to Pont -de- Roide. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 13 km.
