The Higashi- Kanto Expressway (Japanese东 关 东 自动 车道, Higashi Kanto Jidōshadō; German "East- Kantō Expressway " ) is a highway in Japan. and crosses the Chiba prefecture east of the main Japanese island of Honshu Ichikawa to Katori and ends after a few kilometers in Ibaraki Prefecture on Itako Interchange ( Itako Intāchenji ) in Itako. Street Description

At the height of the Edogawa River on the Bayshore Route of Yokohama and Tokyo Higashi - Kanto Expressway starts here and has 2x3 lanes. It passes through the northern ports of Tokyo Bay at the Funabashi City with 582,000 inhabitants. The highway runs parallel to the Keiyo Road, which runs just to the north. The highway has 2x3 lanes and leads through a typical Japanese suburbs with houses. It then comes the city of Sakura, where a typical Dutch windmill. In the city of Narita is the highway link to Narita International Airport, the main international airport of Tokyo. After the airport expressway, the road narrows to 2x2 lanes. It is here already 50 kilometers away from downtown Tokyo. This area is hilly with some woods. Then the river Tone crossed the second river of Japan. Just before the town of Kashima the highway ends as Itako.

History

The first section of the Higashi- Kanto Expressway between Miyano ( in Chiba, Chiba ) and Tomisato was opened in 1971 as Shin- Kuko Expressway ( " New - airport highway "). A year later, the extension followed by the Narita Interchange. After the completion of the New Tokyo International Airport in 1978 it was renamed in 1979 in Higashi - Kanto Expressway; only completed in 1978 connection from Narita Interchange to the airport is still called Shin- Kuko Expressway.
