Higashimatsushima, Miyagi
Higashi- Matsushima (Japanese东 松 岛 市, -shi ) is a city in Miyagi Prefecture on Honshu, the main island of Japan.
Geography
Higashimatsushima located south of Ishinomaki north of Sendai on the Pacific Ocean.
History
The city Higashimatsushima was on 1 April 2005 from the merger of the municipalities Yamoto (矢 本 町, machi ) and Naruse (鸣 瀬 町, machi ) in the district of Mono.
On 11 March 2011 the city was hit by the Tohoku earthquake and the subsequent tsunami. It broke out fires and a half the city was under water. Until May 20, 1031 dead and 395 missing persons were counted.
