Hjalmar Procopé

Hjalmar Johan Fredrik Procopé ( born August 9, 1889 in Helsinki, † March 8, 1954 ) was a Finnish politician of the Swedish People's Party and a diplomat. He served in the 1920s and 30s several times as minister.

In the years 1915-1922 Procopé worked as a lawyer in Helsinki. From the spring of 1918 he was employed in the Finnish Embassy in Berlin until the end of the same year. As a member of the Swedish People's Party, he was elected for the years 1919 to 1922 and from 1924 to 1926 in the House of Representatives.

From 1920 to 1921, he stood in front of the Ministry of Trade and Industry under Prime Minister Rafael Erich. In 1924, he starred in the same function under Aimo Kaarlo Cajander. From 1924 to 1925 he was secretary of state under Lauri Ingman; an office which he was to retain throughout 1927-1931. In between, he was from 1924 to 1926 Ambassador of Finland in Warsaw.

His son Victor Procopé was later also a member of the House of Representatives. A poet named Hjalmar Procopé was cousin of the politician of the same name.
