Höntrop

Höntrop is a district of Bochum in North Rhine -Westphalia. It has about 20,000 inhabitants, is one of the largest districts in the borough Wattenscheid.

Höntrop adjoins the districts west field, Sevinghausen and Eppendorf who in earlier times together with Höntrop by the end of 1974 on the independent city Wattenscheid, and is now in Bochum West. In the vicinity are the Essen district Freisenbruch and the Bochum Linden districts and Dahlhausen.

Höntrop was first documented around the year 880 as a " Hogingthorpe " in the register of the lifting founded in 802 Werden monastery. Therein the neighboring villages have also been called Eppendorf ( Abbingthorpe ) and west field ( Westanfelda ).

The place started to develop through the Ruhr mining. The station Wattenscheid - Höntrop from the 19th century is now a stop on the S-Bahn line S1 of the VRR from Dortmund to Solingen.

The municipality was incorporated into Höntrop Wattenscheid on 1 April 1926. A small portion was reclassified to Bochum.

Höntrop applies with several carnival societies and private parade beside Bochum -Linden as one of the carnival strongholds in the otherwise rather little carnival Bochum.
