Horná Lehota, Brezno District

Horna Lehota ( until 1927 slovak " Horna LEHOTA "; Hungarian Felsőszabadi - to 1907 Felsőlehota ) is a town in central Slovakia with a population of 585 (as at 31 December 2011), the Region belongs to Okres Brezno, a circle of Banskobystrický and traditional landscape Horehronie is counted.

Geography

The municipality is located on the southern slope of the central part of the Low Tatras, in the catchment area of the river Hron Hnusné in the river system. The nearly 45.9 km ² territory extends up to the main ridge of the Low Tatras and thus the core area of the Low Tatras National Park and has a share in the two-thousand Chopok and Dumbier limited by the creek Bystrianka in the east and a side ridge to the west. The center is located at an altitude of 640 m nm and is 12 kilometers from Brezno.

Administratively divided the community ( two kilometers south of the capital ) and Horna Lehota in vilage Bruchačka.

The territory of Horna Lehota borders Demänovská Dolina and Liptovsky Ján over the main ridge to the north, on a short section Brezno in the northeast, Bystrá in the east, in the southeast Valaská, Podbrezová in the south and Dolna Lehota in the West.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1406 as Superior Lehota writing and belonged to the manor of Castle Liptsch and was there until 1848. Until the 16th century there were gold mines and then Horna Lehota was an agricultural center with developed sheep farming. 1828 were counted 151 houses and 1,168 inhabitants, who were employed in forestry and agriculture, and as a top maker, since the mid-19th century they worked also in the steel mill in Podbrezová.

Until 1918, belonged to the lying in the county Sohl place the Kingdom of Hungary and came after Czechoslovakia or Slovakia today.

Population

According to the 2011 census lived in Horna Lehota 580 inhabitants, of whom 527 Slovaks, Roma and one seven Magyar and Czech. 44 inhabitants did not respond. 307 residents pleaded with the Roman Catholic Church, the Evangelical Church AB 100 inhabitants, six inhabitants to the apostolic church and one population to evangelistic church and the Jewish community; a resident was other denomination. 93 residents were non-denominational and 71 inhabitants, the denomination is not determined.

Attractions and Tourism

  • Roman Catholic Archangel Michael Church in Baroque style from the late 17th century
  • Protestant church from 1790, built after the Edict of Toleration
  • Grave, monument and memorial to the poet vicarage Samo Chalupka

In the municipality there are well-known tourist destinations such as Tále, Krpáčovo (partly in Dolna Lehota ) and Trangoška below the Chopok. They are accessible by neighboring towns Bystrá and Dolna Lehota.
