Hugh the Abbot

Hugo Abbas, also the abbot Hugo, French Hugues l' Abbé ( *, ? † May 12 886 in Orléans ) was one of the leaders of the West Frankish kingdom. At times he had the Ducatus regni held, so it was actually Reich Governor ( an appropriate title, however, is not attested in documents ). His nickname he owed to the fact that he possessed a " lay abbot " significant monasteries as sinecures and their related income.

Hugo came from the family of Burgundian Guelph. He was the younger son of Count Conrad I the Elder of Paris and Auxerre and Adelheid of Tours from the family of Etichonen. About his aunt, the Empress Judith, he was a cousin of their son, Emperor Charles II the Bald.

Hugo was 853 as successor to his father lay abbot of Saint- Germain d' Auxerre.
