The line of the Paris T3 tram was the first new streetcar line, which runs within the French capital ( 13th, 14th and 15th arrondissement ). It was commissioned in 2006, extended in December 2012, and connects in two sections with a length of 22.4 kilometers, the stations Pont du Garigliano in the southwest and Porte de la Chapelle in the north of Paris. Here, their route is on the boulevards of Maréchaux, a sequence of boulevards, Paris surrounded at its external borders parallel to the Périphérique, which is why it is also known as the Tramway Maréchaux.

History

After the bus lines along the boulevards of Paris Maréchaux circled (PC 1-3) pushed to their limits for a long time, started in 2000 with the planning of a improvement of the offer by increasing capacity. They opted for a standard gauge tramway, but which was quite controversial, since its construction of the inevitably consume scarce road space in Paris is further reduced. The above-ground lines that intersect all Parisian arterial roads must and new signal and traffic light systems limits the fluidity of road traffic was, therefore controversial.

Nevertheless, it began in 2004 with the construction of the first part of the piece of Tramway Maréchaux. The construction was not limited to the tram route, but was also used to transform these boulevards fundamentally. The tram runs continuously on its own line, which is mostly designed as a green track. The cost for the construction of the first piece and the remodeling of the affected streets amounted to approximately € 320 million. The commissioning took place on 16 December 2006.

2009 began construction on an extension on the East of Paris, to the north of the metro station Porte de la Chapelle. This 14.5 km long extension with 26 new stations was commissioned in December 2012. The construction costs amounted to € 652 million for the Tramway and € 149 million for the associated transformation of the busy streets. The costs are borne by the City of Paris and the Ile- de -France region. The T3a T3b between the Porte de Vincennes and Porte de la Chapelle runs between Pont du Garigliano and Porte de Vincennes: As a route of that length would have been very susceptible lateness, the T3 was divided into two lines with a change in Porte de Vincennes.

Technical innovations: Save energy with supercapacitor

As part of the STEEM project (Système de Tramway à Efficacité Energétique Maximisée = tram with maximized energy efficiency ) a web of line 3 was equipped with a supercapacitor, which for test purposes from May 2009 to September 2010 on a 300 m long section between stops Porte d 'Italie and Porte de Choisy drove each de-energized. With the super capacitor, it is possible to save a large part of the braking energy and to use it again in the following cycle. Here, an average energy saving of 16 % was achieved over the non- converted vehicles.

Operation

Since the Paris tram lines mutually have no track connection, has every line of their own fleet of vehicles. Then, the line T3, which is operated with 46 vehicles of the type Citadis 402 by the manufacturer Alstom. The vehicles have a length of 43.7 m and a width of 2.65 m and hold 304 people. The vehicles are designed as bi-directional vehicles, so doors are available at both ends cabs and on both sides.
