Indy Lights

The Indy Lights from 1986 to 2001, the newly promoted class of the Champ Car Series, the most important single-seater racing series in the CART organization in the United States. The name she was given the Indy Lights series in 1991, founded as the American Racing Series ( ARS).

The Indy Lights was comparable to today's Formula 1 GP2 class climber. It was set in 2001 due to financial problems of the organizer CART, Toyota Atlantic Series then took over the job of youth development for the Champ Car series. ( From 2002 to 2008, this race series was known as the Champ Car Atlantic Series, since then the name Atlantic Championship. )

In 2008, the Indy Pro Series was renamed the existing since 2002 promoted class of the IndyCar Series in " Indy Lights".

The original Indy Lights has produced two Champ Car champion, two IndyCar Series champion and two Formula 1 drivers.
