Infiniti

Infiniti is the luxury brand of Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.. The official launch of Infiniti took place on November 8, 1989 in North America. In the period following the sale to Mexico, the Middle East, South Korea, Taiwan, Russia, China and Europe has expanded.

Launch in Europe

Since autumn 2008, the gradual introduction will take place in 21 European countries. The European Infiniti main office is located in Rolle, Switzerland.

Initially four models were offered in Europe. We kicked off the Infiniti FX50. It provides a direct competitor to the comparable models of the Mercedes -Benz M -Class, the BMW X5, Lexus RX, Audi Q7, the Porsche Cayenne and the Range Rover Sport dar. With the second-generation Infiniti G, equipped with a 3, 7 -liter V6 engine, which is to take on the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, Mercedes C-Class and the Lexus iS, Infiniti also holds in the market for premium sedans feeder. The Infiniti G Coupe has a lot of features in common with its counterpart, the sedan, but the styling is aimed at a different buyer class that would normally pull the coupe of the BMW 3 Series, the Mercedes CLK-Class, the Audi A5 into consideration. The Infiniti EX, which offers upscale interior, a raised driving position and all-wheel drive, is the third model in Europe. The EX37 is the first production vehicle in the world with the Around View Monitor ( AVM) system, which gives the driver when parking a bird's eye perspective of the vehicle. In addition, it is equipped with " self-healing " anti-scratch paint (ASAP ). The EX is marketed in the same segment as the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Mercedes GLK.

The M sedan was introduced later and the QX is not offered, but there are plans for the introduction of a completely new V6 diesel engine by 2010, which is designed specifically for Europe.

All current Infiniti coupes, sedans and crossovers are based on the Nissan FM structure. The center of gravity of the motor is located behind the front wheels. This is an optimized weight distribution between front and rear axle achieved improved ( for example, when FX50 54:46 ), the brakes, acceleration and handling characteristics. The only exception is the QX56 full-blown SUV Nissan F-Alpha build, for it however - apart from Russia - are no plans for a launch in Europe.

Since 3 October 2009 Infiniti is also sold on the German market. The first branch was opened in Hamburg, the second in Dresden and the third in Berlin. The fourth was opened in Dusseldorf mid-November 2010 at the Auto Höherweg. A total of six models are available. In addition to the G37 sedan and coupe and the convertible to the corresponding steel roof there is the SUV EX and FX and the M sedan of the upper middle class.

Mid-2012 was opened near Vienna in Brunn am Gebirge Austria's first Infiniti showrooms.

Unlike the also coming from the U.S. market brands Lexus and Infiniti Cadillac offers since the end of 2010, the models M, EX and FX with a new V6 diesel engine. Diesel engines - primarily but with four cylinders - dominate in the appropriate classes in Europe, while they are virtually unsaleable in the United States.

The first special model of the brand is the Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel, which is powered by a 420 hp engine. The price of the model produced in small series is not known.

Model names

The numbers of the model name indicate the engine displacement of the engine in again deciliter ( for example G20 ⇒ 2.0 liters). The only exception is the first SUV " QX4 ", whose engine had 3.3 and 3.5 liter displacement.

In the name of the Infiniti model name one letter for coupes and sedans will be awarded ( two letters for SUVs ) and a number that gives information about the displacement. Thus, the FX50 is for example an SUV with a 5.0 liter engine. An X by specifying the displacement of Infiniti sedans denotes a model with all-wheel drive (eg Infiniti G37x ), an h at this point is for a hybrid, d for a diesel.

In December 2012, Infiniti announced plans to change the nomenclature of its models. From model year 2014, the model name of the coupes and sedans start with a Q, while crossovers and SUVs QX will be used. A two-digit number, which follows the prefix to reflect the corresponding rank in the Infiniti portfolio. The first model, which follows the new nomenclature, the Infiniti Q50.
