The first World Games were held from July 25 to August 3, 1981 in the U.S. Santa Clara.

The 4th World Games were held from July 22 to August 1, 1993 in The Hague.

The 5th World Games were held from 5th to August 15, 1997 in Lahti, Finland.

The 6th World Games were held from August 16 to 26 2001 at the Japanese Akita. It took 41 inline speed skater (s) from 11 countries participated.

World Games 2005

The 7th World Games were held from 14 to July 24, 2005 in Duisburg. For the inline speed skaters, the pre- heats and final heats were held from 19 to July 21. There were 48 places in the line discipline. It took 24 inline speed skaters inside and 24 inline speed skaters from 16 countries participated. In Sportpark Duisburg Duisburg at the regatta course, a 200 meter oval was on the triangular meadow specifically for inline discipline built.

World Games 2009

The 8th World Games will be held from 16 to 26 July 2009 at Taiwan's Kaohsiung. For the inline speed skaters the pros and decision cycles are provided from 17th to 19th of July. The venue is the Yangming Skating Rink has especially given a new covering for the World Games. 30 inline speed skaters inside and 30 inline speed skaters from 19 countries will be admitted.

A calculation for the few starting places, performed on the basis of the results of the Track World Championships 2008. The host country receives each way a starting place and the track world champion in 2008 will also receive a starting place. The remaining places will be allocated on the basis of a ranking order resulting from the sum of the top three placements of the Track World Championships 2008.

World Games 2013

The 9th World Games took place between August 4, 2013 in the Colombian Cali on 25 July. The train races decisions were held on the road as an invitation sport for the first time. For the inline speed skaters the advantages and decision runs from July 31 to August 2 were on the track and provided from August 3 to 4 ( Heats August 1 ) on the road. The venue is the Patinódromo Mundialista in the western part of Santiago de Cali. 37 inline speed skaters and 41 indoor inline speed skaters from 25 countries participated.
