Ireneusz Paliński

Ireneusz Paliński [ irɛnɛuʃ paliɲsci ] ( born May 13, 1932 in Nużewo at Ciechanów; † 9 July 2006 ) was a Polish weightlifter and Olympic champion.

Career

Paliński began during his military service in 1955 with the weight lifting. Coached by Bronisław Stępny in Breslau he soon achieved such good performance that the then famous coach Clement Roguski and August Dziedzic accepted his. In 1957 he competed at the European Championships in Katowice, finishing there in third place. He constantly improved further and included the next ten years a world leader.

His fighting spirit he showed in 1958 during a struggle countries Germany - Poland in Munich, where he scored 415 kg in the Olympic triathlon, even though he had a fever and a sore throat, the bed must guard even the day before. His greatest achievement was his victory in the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome in the Light Heavyweight ( to 82.5 kg of body weight). Later he moved into the middle heavyweight (up to 90 kg body weight), in which he was immediately back in the top class. Ireneusz Paliński studied civil engineering in Breslau and was after his time working as a coach as a player.
