Island country
An island nation is a country that consists of one or more islands or parts of islands and consulted with any part of the land area of a continent. Island states are different from the inland and coastal States.
Of the 195 currently recognized by the United Nations sovereign states of the world are 46, or about a quarter, island states. There are also four other, only partially recognized island states.
The largest area of island country is Indonesia, the next largest island states are ( sorted by area ) Madagascar, Papua New Guinea, Japan, the Philippines, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
