The Isparta Suleyman Demirel Airport, also Isparta Airport ( Turkish Isparta Suleyman Demirel Havaalanı ) is a Turkish airport near the city of Isparta, 4 kilometers from the place Gümüsgün. It is operated by the State DHMI and is named after former Turkish President Suleyman Demirel.

History and Facilities

The airport was in 1997, transferred the operation and will be used only for civilian purposes. Classified as an international airport has one terminal with a capacity of 1.5 million passengers per year and a paved airstrip, but does not have an instrument flight landing system (ILS ). The apron has a size of 220 × 100 meters and can accommodate five passenger aircraft. Moreover, there are at the airport a building for cargo handling and emergency medical station and a VIP lounge in the terminal.

Connection

The associated therewith Isparta city is located about 30 kilometers away. They can be reached by taxi, private car or airport on highways. Front of the terminal there is a parking lot for 100 vehicles.

Flights

The scheduled service only Turkish Airlines flies to Isparta. They operated from here six times a week Istanbul, where the Sabiha Gökçen Airport is served. From there, there are numerous connections to national and international flight connections.

Incidents

  • On 30 November 2007, carried out with a McDonnell Douglas MD -83 Atlasjet Flight 4203 crashed on its way from Istanbul Ataturk Airport to Isparta on the landing approach. All 57 passengers on board were killed. To date, the cause of the crash could not be determined.
