Istanbul International Jazz Festival

The Istanbul International Jazz Festival is held annually in July in Istanbul since 1994 international music festival. It is organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts and is regarded as one of the leading European jazz festivals.

The venues are scattered throughout the city, including the Hagia Irene Museum, the Sakıp Sabancı Museum, Istanbul Modern and other museums that Parkorman outdoor theater, restaurants, various messages such as the German Embassy Park in Tarabya, the Austrian and Italian Cultural Centre, the garden the Dutch Consulate and the Cemal Resit Rey concert Hall. As a festival within the festival concerts take place in the Tunel district.

History

The idea for the festival was initiated by the Chick Corea concert in 1984 at the since 1973 existing Istanbul Festival ( now Istanbul International Music Festival), the more jazz events at the festival followed. 1986 was a jazz constant aspect and 1994 was the festival under its own name, in addition to jazz and blues, rock, world music, hip-hop, blues, soul, reggae, folk, New Age and other popular genres are represented.

The festival included performances by Keith Jarrett (1996, 2012) and Miles Davis (1988 ), Jan Garbarek, Ornette Coleman, Stan Getz and the Modern Jazz Quartet, Brad Mehldau, Ray Charles, Wynton Marsalis, The Manhattan Transfer, Bobby McFerrin, Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden, Dizzy Gillespie, Dianne Reeves, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Melody Gardot and David Sanborn on. Even Turkish jazz musicians like Okay Temiz, Maffy Falay, Kerem Görsev or Ayşe Tütüncü were presented at the festival. In addition, musicians were to experience from other genres such as, among others, Leonard Cohen, Patti Smith, Eric Clapton, Suzanne Vega, Grace Jones, Loreena McKennitt, Bryan Ferry, Lou Reed, Simply Red, Marianne Faithfull and Alicia Keys.
