Ivan Bohdan

Ivan Bogdan Gawrilowitsch, Russian Иван Гаврилович Богдан, (* February 29, 1928 in Dmitrowo - Belowka in the Mykolaiv Oblast ), a former Soviet wrestler.

Sports career

Ivan Bogdan began as a teenager near Moscow with the rings. At the beginning of the 1950s, he was drafted into the Soviet Army and delegated to the sports club of the army in Leningrad. There he was, inter alia, with the Altinternationalen Konstantin Koberidse an excellent coach who approach soon led him to the Soviet top class of heavyweight wrestler.

Bogdan wrestled exclusively in Greco-Roman wrestling and only weighed about 100 kg, which was relatively easy for a heavyweight. In the years 1953 and 1954 he was also placed already in front of the field at the Soviet Championships in Greco-Roman style, but was not yet past the Soviet wrestler in the heavyweight scene dominant for years Johannes Kotkas and Alexander Masur. 1955 and 1956, he came Soviet vice-champion in the heavyweight division, and had so strongly recommended as a replacement for the already over forty years Kotkas and Masur.

The World Championships in 1957 and 1959 were held only in free style.
