IZair

İzmir Airlines (Turkish: İzmir Hava Yollari; exterior appearance also Izair ), is a Turkish airline based in İzmir.

History

İzmir Airlines was founded by an association of 114 coming from İzmir businessmen in April 2005. Headquarters and hub is İzmir. The Board was composed of the three members Metin Akdurak, Necmi Çalışkan and Jak Eskinazi. Ekrem Demirtas was CEO.

Reasons for the introduction of the new airline were both the approved project to expand the airport of Izmir as well as the adjustment of direct flights Turkish Airlines between İzmir and various European cities. The stated business objective is the annual transport of one million passengers and 2000 tons of cargo by 8500 flights. Thus Izmir to Istanbul would be the second largest pivotal cross Turkey.

On 20 March 2007 acquired the ESAS Holding, whose group of companies and the Pegasus Airlines heard by now 100 % of the company shares. In the following years, a close cooperation between the two airlines developed.

Since autumn 2011, İzmir Airlines operated several of its aircraft for the Air Berlin brand Turkey, a collaborative venture between Air Berlin and Pegasus Airlines. In April 2012 it was announced that Air Berlin wants to buy shares in İzmir Airlines, which has not been implemented.

Finally resolved in March 2013 - - In the winter of 2012, the operation was trademark Air Berlin Turkey including three Boeing 737-800 taken over by the sister company Pegasus Airlines, İzmir Airlines then ran until the summer of 2013 no more aircraft. However, some aircraft for Pegasus Airlines operated again the meantime.

Destinations

As of August 2013 Izair flies exclusively in the route network of Pegasus Airlines. In addition to numerous destinations within Turkey, including Adana, Ankara, Antalya, Bodrum, Diyarbakır, Erzurum, Gaziantep, İstanbul, İzmir, Mardin, Samsun, Trabzon and Van Izair previously flew to several European destinations such as Amsterdam, Zurich and Munich.
