Jakub " Kuba " Błaszczykowski [ Jakup bwaʃʧɨkɔfski ] ( listen? / I ) ( born December 14, 1985 in Truskolasy ) is a Polish footballer who is active for Borussia Dortmund since 2007.

Career

Association

Jakub Błaszczykowski began his football career with eight years along with his three years older brother Dawid in Rakow Czestochowa. It found him the Scouts of the Polish first division championship record and Gornik Zabrze, where he then moved in the fall of 2002. In Gornik he could not sit down and was released in 2003 returned to his native city of Częstochowa, to local rivals KS Częstochowa in the fourth Polish league.

In 2005 he achieved his breakthrough when he was hired in the winter break of 2004/ 05 by the Polish giants and former reigning champions Wisła Kraków Polish and was able to work out a regular place. In the same game year he was Polish champion with Krakow.

In July 2007 he was transferred for a transfer fee of 3.2 million euros to Borussia Dortmund. Błaszczykowski was at the time one of the most promising Polish football talents. Poland football legend Zbigniew Boniek referred to him as "little Figo ".

With Borussia Dortmund, he was on 19 April 2008 at the DFB Cup final in Berlin, which by extension with the team lost 1:2 against FC Bayern Munich. His first competitive goal for Borussia Dortmund he succeeded on 25 April 2008 in the match against Eintracht Frankfurt for a 1-1 draw. After finishing sixth in 2009 and fifth place in 2010 Błaszczykowski in 2011 and 2012 German Champion with Borussia. On 12 May 2012, he played with Borussia Dortmund again in the DFB Cup final in Berlin and won this time 5-2 against Bayern Munich.

During the summer break in 2012 Błaszczykowski extended his contract with Dortmund for three years until 2016.

Błaszczykowskis jersey with the number 16 wore to the 2011/12 season the inscription his nickname Cuba, the Polish diminutive of Jakub. From 2012/13, his full name Błaszczykowski will be printed at his own request, however.

In June 2013 Błaszczykowski extended his contract with Borussia Dortmund again by two years to 30 June 2018.

Matchday 18 of the 2013/14 season he suffered in the home game against FC Augsburg a torn ACL in his right knee after he was firmly stuck in the lawn. It thus turns out for at least 6 months.

National

On 28 March 2006 Błaszczykowski debuted in the senior national team in a friendly against Saudi Arabia, but was not appointed by the then national team coach Paweł Janas in the World Cup squad in 2006. Two years later he was nominated by the new coach of Poland, Leo Beenhakker, for the 2008 European Championship. Shortly before the first group match against Germany, Błaszczykowski injured his thigh and had to leave; Łukasz Piszczek for him was re-nominated. Since 2010 Błaszczykowski is captain of the national team.

On 12 June 2012, he scored at the European Championships in 2012 in his own country hits for a 1-1 draw in the game against Russia. It was his first goal in an international tournament.

Private

Błaszczykowski is married with Agata and has a daughter. In June 2014 his wife is expecting their second child.

He comes from a sports family: his uncle Jerzy Brzęczek also played in the national team and was their captain when they won the silver medal at the 1992 Olympic Games. Today this and Błaszczykowskis brother train the Polish third division Raków Częstochowa. His cousin Janusz Wojnarowicz is one of the best judoka of Poland ( six European medals ).

Błaszczykowski was ten years old, witnessed his father stabbed his mother. This had for 15 years in prison and died in 2012. Jakub and his brother David were raised by their grandmother.
