Jaroslav Modrý

Jaroslav Modrý ( born February 27, 1971 in České Budějovice, Czechoslovakia) is a Czech ice hockey player who is under contract with HC Plzeň from the Extraliga since 2009.

Career

Jaroslav Modrý began his career in the youth teams of the TJ Motor České Budějovice and debuted in 1988 for the men's team in the top division of Czechoslovakia. In the following two years he established himself in the men's team and was selected in the ninth round during the NHL Entry Draft in 1990 at 179 instead of the New Jersey Devils. A short time later he moved within the CSSR on TJ Dukla Trenčín.

In 1992 he decided to take a move to North America, first played at the Utica Devils, the former farm team of the New Jersey Devils in the American Hockey League. During the 1993/94 season he made his NHL debut for the Devils, but played mostly on the farm team of the Devils. Parts of the season 1994/95 he spent due to a strike in the NHL in the Czech Republic at the HC České Budějovice.

In July 1995, he was discharged from the Devils to the Ottawa Senators, in turn, transferred into in March 1996 to the Los Angeles Kings. In the following years Modrý graduated increasingly more games in the NHL and was otherwise in the AHL or IHL used. The 2000/ 01 was Modrýs first full NHL season before the 2001/ 02 personal best values ​​for assists and points scorer reached in the season and took part in the NHL All -Star Game.

In 2004 he left the Los Angeles Kings and signed as a free agent contract with the Atlanta Thrashers. Since the 2004/05 season but failed due to a lockout, he returned to the Czech Republic and played for the White Tigers Liberec. In the following season, he went for the Thrashers on the ice before he was released in 2006 along with fellow countryman Patrik Štefan to the Dallas Stars, who sent to Los Angeles in exchange Niko Kapanen and a draft pick.

After half of the 2006/07 season the Stars Jaroslav Modrý sent back to the Kings, the charges for Mattias Norstrom at Dallas. During the season 2007 /08 he was then re-used as a bargaining chip. The Philadelphia Flyers gave the Kings from a third-round draft pick and we were given the Czech defender.

After he received no new NHL contract in the summer of 2008, he returned to the Czech Republic and signed a two year contract in Liberec. Due sporting failure Modrý received in spring 2009 release and moved to HC Plzeň.

Internationally

Jaroslav Modrý came in 1989 at the U18 European Championship for Junior selection of Czechoslovakia to use and won the silver medal. Two years later he took part in the U20 World Cup, and won the U20 team of ČSFR the bronze medal. Because he played in the following years in North America, he no longer participated in international championships. It was not until 2003, he was appointed to the cadre of the Czech national team, finishing with this at the Ice Hockey World Championship 2003 in fourth place.
