Jean-François Lamour

Jean -François Lamour ( born February 2, 1956 in Paris ) is a French former fencer and former Sports Minister. He won the gold medal in saber individual at the Olympic Games in 1984 and 1988.

Lamour began in 1963 in Paris at the fencing master Augustin Parent with the sport. At the Olympic Games in 1980 Lamour was eliminated in the second round. He was the only French fencer in 1980 remained without a medal. At the Olympic Games in 1984 Lamour won the saber - single in the final against the Italian Mario Marin. In the team competition Lamour reached with the French team also the final, but it lost to the Italian team to Marin.

1986 Lamour won at the World Championships in Sofia bronze in singles. In the World Fencing Championships 1987 Lamour won the singles titles and bronze in the team. 1988 Seoul Lamour won the Olympic singles competition against Poland Janusz Olech. The French team reached the final for the bronze medal and lost against the Italians. In the same year he was appointed by the sports newspaper L' Équipe France's Sportsman of the Year ( " champion of champions" ) selected.

1989 at the World Fencing Championships won Lamour bronze with the team. At the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona Lamour won again two bronze medals in the individual and with the team. Lamour won from 1977 to 1992 a total of 13 French championship.

After his athletic career, the trained physiotherapist moved to the French policy. Until 1995 he was Advisor to the Mayor of Paris. From 1995 to 2002 he was Secretary for Youth and Sport, the French president. From 2002 to 2004 Lamour held the position of Minister of Sports, from 2004 to May 2007, he was Minister of Youth and Sports. Since 2007 he has UMP deputy in the French National Assembly.
