Jean-Frédéric Chapuis

Jean -Frédéric Chapuis ( born March 2, 1989 in Bourg -Saint -Maurice ) is a French-Swiss freestyle skis. He specializes in the discipline of ski cross. His biggest successes are the world champion title in 2013 and the Olympic gold medal in 2014.

Biography

Chapuis was an alpine ski racer at the start of his racing career. From December 2004 he participated in FIS races and national junior race. He won two FIS races for themselves and took part in the Junior World Championship 2008, where the 12th place in the combined score his best result was. Achievements in European Cup races in which he had participated since January 2008, did not materialize. End of the season 2009/10 he moved to freestyle ski cross discipline.

His debut in the Freestyle World Cup had Chapuis on December 18, 2010 in San Candido, where he went to 8th place and immediately won the first World Cup points. Another eighth place came a month later added in Les Contamines. In the winter of 2011/12 he drove in the World Cup five times in the top ten. The first podium finish he achieved on 26 February 2012 in Grasgehren (3rd place). Due to an injury Chapuis missed the beginning of the season 2012/13. He was nonetheless nominated for the World Cup 2013 in Voss and won somewhat surprisingly the gold medal. A week later, on March 17, 2013, he won a World Cup race for the first time in Åre.

At the 2014 Winter Olympics Chapuis won ahead of his French compatriots Arnaud Bovolenta and Jonathan Midol. In the World Cup 2013/14 he won a race in itself.

Private

His mother, Catherine Güller is a Swiss woman who as a teacher taught at the primary school Arosa for many years. As a result, speaks grew up in Val Thorens Jean -Frédéric Chapuis fluent German and has, in addition to the French and Swiss citizenship. Before joining the ski cross he went temporarily Alpine race for Swiss-Ski.
