John Louis Morkovsky

John Louis Morkovsky ( born August 16, 1909 in Praha, Texas; † 24 March 1990) was Bishop of Galveston - Houston.

Life

John Louis Morkovsky received on 5 December 1933 the archpriest of the Lateran Basilica, Cardinal Francesco Marchetti Selvaggiani, the priesthood for the Archdiocese of San Antonio.

Pope Pius XII. appointed him on 22 December 1955 Titular Bishop of Hiero and auxiliary bishop in Amarillo. The Apostolic Delegate in the United States, Amleto Giovanni Cicognani, gave him on 22 February of the following year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Corpus Christi, Mariano Simon Garriga, and the Bishop of El Paso, Sidney Matthew Metzger.

On August 18, 1958, he was appointed Bishop of Amarillo.

Pope John XXIII. appointed him on 16 April 1963, Coadjutor Bishop of Galveston - Houston and titular bishop of Tigava. He attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as part of a Council Father.

With the resignation of Bishop Wendelin Joseph Nold on April 22, 1975, he followed them, as Bishop of Galveston - Houston. On August 21, 1984 Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation age-related.
