John Swinney

John Ramsey Swinney ( born April 13, 1964 in Edinburgh) is a Scottish politician (SNP ) and the Finance Minister of Scotland.

Life

Swinney was born in 1964 in Edinburgh and has performed at the age of 15 years the Scottish National Party. Later he took up studies in political science at the University of Edinburgh. This he graduated with a master.

John Swinney is married to a television reporter named Elizabeth Quigley. Their son Quigley and Swinneys came in October 2010 to the world, from a previous marriage Swinneys had two children.

Political activity

In the British general election in 1997 Swinney won a seat in the House of Commons in London, two years later at the Scottish Parliament elections a seat in the newly formed Scottish Parliament. The mandate of the Parliament of Great Britain has held since the 2001 election, another deputy of the SNP, the seat of the Scottish Parliament could Swinney at the 2003 elections, defending 2007 and 2011.

From 1998 to 2000, John Swinney the deputy leader of the SNP, in the next four years chairman of the party.

After the formation of an SNP government in 2007, he was in the Cabinet I Salmond Minister for Finance and Sustainable Growth, the formed after the 2011 election Cabinet Salmond II he was Minister for Finance, Employment and Sustainable Growth.

After the election victory of the SNP in the Scottish Parliament elections in 2011 Swinney announced that the government would hold a referendum on Scottish independence from the United Kingdom in the current 2015 legislative session.
