José María Sánchez-Verdú

José María Sánchez Verdú ( born March 7, 1968 in Algeciras, Spain ) is a Spanish conductor and composer of contemporary music.

Life

Sánchez Verdú was born in Algeciras ( Spain) in 1968. He studied from 1986 to 1994 conducting, musicology and composition at the Conservatorio Superior de Música in Real Madrid. He later studied sections with Franco Donatoni in Siena (1992 ) and Hans Zender in Frankfurt (1996 to 1999). 1997 brought him a scholarship from the Spanish Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. At the Robert -Schumann -Hochschule in Dusseldorf teaches Sánchez- Verdú since 2001 composition. In 2005 he was invited as Composer in Residence of the Carinthian Summer Festival ( Austria ). In 2007 he was composer in residence at the V Festival Internacional de Musica Contemporanea de Lima ( Peru). 2007 and 2008 grants from the Experimental Studio for Acoustic Art ( SWR Freiburg). Since 2008 professor of composition at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón, Zaragoza, Spain. Living in Berlin and Madrid.

Honors

José María Sánchez Verdú received for his work important composition prizes, including the composition prize of the Colegio de España in Paris ( 1998), the Irino Composition Prize ( Tokyo ) (1999), the first composition prize of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie (1999), the Award Siemens Music Prize (Munich, 2000), the composition prize of the Bergische Biennale (Wuppertal, 2002), the National Prize for composition from the Spanish Ministry of Culture (2003), " honorary Conductor " of the Orquesta Manuel de Falla in Cadiz, Spain (2007), Antara Price the Festival de Música Contemporanea de Lima, Peru (2007), etc.

Work

The contemporary works of Sánchez Verdú are often commissioned works, including for the Teatro Real Madrid, la Biennale di Venezia, the Munich Biennale, Staatsoper Unter den Linden (Berlin), Konzerthaus Berlin, Schleswig -Holstein Music Festival, the EXPO 2000, WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, etc.
