Jens Joneleit

Jens Gerd Joneleit ( born September 17, 1968 in Offenbach am Main ) is a German composer.

Life and work

Joneleit grew up in Nieder-Roden at Offenbach. In the local music club, he learned to play the drums. After school and civil service Joneleit first played drums in local rock and jazz groups. In 1990 he moved to the United States. There he studied in Vermillion (South Dakota) and Madison (Wisconsin ) at Stephen Yarbrough ( b. 1946 ), Robert Marek ( 1915-1995 ), Lewis Hamvas and Joel Naumann ( student of Stefan Wolpe ).

Since 1997 Joneleit works as a freelance composer. His special interest is larger formats such as music theater and orchestral works, as well as chamber music, film and radio play. 2002 his first portrait CD appeared with chamber music. In 2006 he was awarded the Composers' Prize of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, the same year his play Le tout le rien was included in the Contemporary Music Edition of the German Music Council. Jens Joneleit lives in Berlin. In 2010 he was awarded the Culture Prize of his hometown Rodgau for the year 2009. On October 3, 2010, his opera Metanoia. Unter den Linden premiered beyond thinking opening the alternate stage of the Berlin State Opera under the baton of Daniel Barenboim.
