Joseph A. Burke

Joseph Aloysius Burke ( born August 27, 1886 in Buffalo, New York, USA, † October 16, 1962 in Rome) was Bishop of Buffalo.

Life

Joseph Aloysius Burke attended Canisius High School and Canisius College in Buffalo that. Burke studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the University of Innsbruck. He received on August 3, 1912 by the Bishop of Buffalo, Charles Henry Colton, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

On April 17, 1943, he was named by Pope Pius XII. Titular Bishop of Vita and appointed him as Auxiliary Bishop of Buffalo. The Apostolic Delegate in the United States, Archbishop Giovanni Cicognani Amleto, donated to him on June 29th of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Archbishop of Newark, Thomas Joseph Walsh, and the Bishop of Albany, Edmund Francis Gibbons. On February 7, 1952, he was named by Pope Pius XII. Bishop of Buffalo.
