Józef Oleksy

Józef Oleksy ( born June 22, 1946 in Nowy Sacz, Poland) is a Polish politician.

Life

Józef Oleksy studied at the Warsaw School of Economics, since 1975 was a member of the Polish United Workers Party and in 1989 became minister for cooperation with the unions. In this capacity he took part in the round - table discussions, the Poles led by a People's Republic into a parliamentary republic.

From 1990 he was Member of the SdRP and from 1996 to 1997 its chairman.

In 1995 he became Prime Minister of Poland. In 1996 he resigned because he was given the information of the interior minister of his government, Andrzej Milczanowski, suspected to have been an agent of the Soviet or Russian intelligence. Soon, however, the allegations turned out to be baseless.

Since 2001, Józef Oleksy to represent the SLD in which the SdRP was now risen, Chairman of the European Commission of the Sejm from 2004 until January 5, 2005 Marshal of the Sejm, which is comparable in function to the German Bundestag president. Oleksy resigned from his position as a court of the end of December 2004, it looked as proven that he worked for the Polish secret service as a paid informant 1970-1978. His successor in office was the former Foreign Minister Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz. However, Oleksy continues to deny the charges brought against him accusations.
