Jure Košir

Jure Košir ( born April 24, 1972 in Mojstrana ) is a former Slovenian skier. He was specialized in the technical disciplines slalom and giant slalom, won three World Cup races and the bronze medal in the slalom at the Olympic Winter Games 1994.

Career

Ko? Ir first international success was the victory in the Super- G at the Junior World Championships in 1991 in Hemsedal. Later he specialized in giant slalom and slalom particularly. In December 1993, he became the first driver from the newly independent Slovenia World Cup race, the slalom of the 3 - Tre race in Madonna di Campiglio. At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, he won the bronze medal behind Thomas Stangassinger and Alberto Tomba in the slalom race. In the slalom discipline rating of the season 1993/94 he reached the third place.

The 1994/95 season was also successful. He could win a race for Alberto Tombas superiority, but reached the second place in the final of the World Cup giant slalom, third in the slalom World Cup and third in the overall World Cup. The following years were less successful, but in the season 1998/99 he had a second career peak. He won two slalom races, one of them in Kranjska Gora, the neighboring village of his birthplace Mojstrana. In the slalom World Cup, he reached the second place. After that he could not go on its previous achievements. He stepped back end of the season 2005/ 06.

In addition to his three wins Košir reached at World Cup races total of 20 finishes among the first three, 18 of them in the slalom. From 1992 to 2005 he won 13 league titles Slovenian: six in slalom, four in giant slalom and three in the Super -G. In 1994 he was elected to the Slovenian sportsman of the year.

In addition to his athletic achievements Jure Košir is known in Slovenia as a rapper. The mid-1990s, at the height of his popularity, he took on some songs. One of them, Včasih smučam hit, včasih pa pocas (Sometimes I drive fast skis, sometimes slow ) reached in his homeland even the charts.
