Jürgen Schmude

Jürgen Dieter Paul Schmude ( born June 9, 1936 in Insterburg, East Prussia ) is a German politician ( SPD).

He was from 1978 to 1981 Federal Minister of Education and Science, 1981-1982 Federal Minister of Justice and Minister of the Interior in 1982.

Education and work

After graduation in 1955 at the high school Adolfinum Moers, Schmude holds a degree in Law, Theatre Studies and of Modern German in Göttingen, Berlin, Bonn and Cologne, which he finished in 1961 with the first state exam. In 1966, the second state examination. Since 1967 he has worked as a lawyer in the law firm of Gustav Heinemann. He received his doctorate of rights to the work, the concept of undertaking in the Act against Restraints of Competition in 1968.

Party

Schmude initially planned a member of the All-German People 's Party ( GVP ), then joined but - in the wake of the dissolution of the GVP - 1957 in the SPD.

Member of Parliament

From 1964 to 1971 he was a member of the Council of the city of Moers and from 1969 also Member of District Assembly.

From 1969 to 1994 he was a member of the German Bundestag. He drew constantly as a directly elected delegates of the constituency Moers and from 1980 the constituency Wesel II in parliament. Here he was from 1977 to 1978 Chairman of the Working Group for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the SPD parliamentary group. From 1984 to 1985 he was Deputy Chairman of the SPD Parliamentary Group.

Jürgen Schmude was last directly elected in the general election in 1990 in the electoral district of Wesel II with 54.0 % of votes.

Offices

Public offices

From 1974 to 1976 he served in the Cabinet of Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, the Office of the Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of the Interior.

On February 16, 1978, he was appointed to the Federal Minister of Education and Science. This office he retained even after the first general election in 1980. However, when in January 1981 Hans -Jochen Vogel as Mayor went to Berlin, Schmude was on 28 January 1981, his successor in the office of the Federal Minister of Justice.

After breaking the social-liberal coalition and the resignation of the FDP ministers, he took over from the September 17, 1982 for another two weeks, the Office of the Federal Minister of the Interior and then retired after the successful for Helmut Kohl confidence vote on 1 October 1982 from the Federal Government.

From 2005 to 2012, he was a member of the German Ethics Council.

Ecclesiastical offices

From 1985 to 2003 Schmude held the office of President of the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD ).
