Kanifing LGA
Kanifing Municipal ( German community Kanifing ) is a municipality in the West African nation of Gambia. It belongs to the administrative divisions of The Gambia, in addition to the regions and the City of Banjul as a separate administrative district in the top-level administrative units.
According to a calculation by 2013 there live about 422 877 inhabitants, the result of the last published census of 2003 was 322 410.

Geography
The municipality covers an area of 76 km ², it is bounded to the west by Banjul and on the south by the district Kombo North of the West Coast region.

Population
According to a survey of 1993 ( former census ), the largest population group, the Mandinka with a share of about three -tenths, followed by the Fula and Wolof. The distribution in detail: 35.9 % Mandinka, Fula 11%, Wolof 16.5%, 19.6%, Jola 4.5% Serahule, 4.4% Serer, Aku 2%, 3.1% Manjago, 0, 7% Bambara and 2.3% other ethnicities.

Parish council
The Municipal Council, the Municipal Kanifing Council ( KMC), is responsible for the area, also known as Kombo-St. Mary Area is known. By 1990, the council was called Kanifing Urban District Council ( KUDC ). Head of Kanifing Municipal Council is a Mayor, since February 2008, Yankuba Colley incumbent of this position.
Coat of arms
The community Kanifing Municipal uses a coat of arms that risks the representation of the sun, the sea, a crocodile and a palm tree together.
Administrative unit
The parish was in the administrative divisions of The Gambia, The Gambia since independence, one of eight Local Government Areas ( LGA).
The Kanifing Municipal is combined with the City of Banjul as Greater Banjul Area ( GBA). The GBA has a coding according to ISO 3166-2 (GM -B).
The administrative center is in Kanifing, a suburb of Serekunda. Kanifing is sometimes used as a synonym for Serekunda.
