History

The airport was built in 1945 during the Japanese colonial period from the army. 1965 took over the Civil Aeronautics Administration Airport. Thus started the first domestic flights.

During the 70s and 80s the international goals took significantly. There were only served Hong Kong and Tokyo. Beginning of the 90s that has been connected to Taipei. This offered the Southern Taiwanese comfort and service since from Taipei more international destinations are offered. Currently südostasische targets are progressively offered because of the time required from south to north and from north to south was further too high. This contributed to a high shear passenger at the airport, so in 1997, the international terminal was opened.

Opened in 1998, EVA Air a connection to Los Angeles. However, it was set three months later due to lack of passengers again. Northwest Airlines offered three years later on the links to Osaka and Tokyo. However, they were also discontinued due to lack of a passenger due to the terrorist attacks of September 11. For these reasons, take the passenger numbers since 1997 drastically.

Since the opening of the Taiwan High Speed Rail 2007, which allows a north -south connection in Taiwan, take the number of passengers, because of the numerous inbound links, sharply. Several airlines went into bankruptcy. Most airlines will see a hope to Japan, Korea, or to fly to the Chinese mainland.
