Kiang East

Kiang East is one of 35 districts - the second highest level of administrative divisions - the West African nation of Gambia. It is one of six districts in the Lower River Region.

According to a calculation by 2013 there live about 6316 inhabitants, the result of the last published census of 2003 was 6534th

The name is derived from Kiang, a former small kingdom.

Population

According to a survey of 1993 ( former census ), the largest population group, the Mandinka with a share of about seven -tenths, followed by the Fula and Wolof. The distribution in detail: 70.8 % Mandinka, Fula 17.2%, 10.7% Wolof, Jola 0.3 %, 0.3% Serahule, 0.5% Serer, Aku 0%, 0 % Manjago, 0 Bambara % and 0.2 % other ethnicities.
