Kirchdorf in Tirol is a municipality with 3809 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Kitzbühel in Tyrol, Austria. In Kitzbühel area is spoken in the dialect of Kischdorf.

Geography

Kirchdorf lies in Leukental, near St. Johann in Tirol. The community consists of several hamlets and scattered settlements. The municipal area also has a large part of the Wilder Kaiser. Kirchdorf is the surface second largest municipality in the Kitzbühel district and is located in the judicial district of Kitzbühel.

History

Kirchdorf has been inhabited since prehistoric times, but there was never a permanent settlement activities. The first mention was made in the year 1125th His name has Kirchdorf of the Church, which is one of the oldest in the district. N early as the late 2nd and early 3rd century BC was a Roman Villa on site of the present church.

In the following centuries Kirchdorf developed into a mining village. In the 16th century a melt, a hammer mill, a Gußwerk and a forge were built. The Fuggers were owners and builders, who mined mainly copper ores and processed. But already the middle of the following century was adjusted gradually to mining again.

During the time of the Tyrolean struggle for freedom the Kirchdorferfeld were sacked along with their area of General Wrede. Here you also destroyed the church.

Church History

In the 8th century the first church was built on foundations of an old mansion, which was destroyed in the riots of the great migrations, built. In the year 1200 we laid the foundation for today's sacred building. It was not until 300 years later, this was Gothicised. In the 18th century the parish church got its present Baroque appearance. The parish church village was also responsible for Reit im Winkl, which led to a close connection between the two communities, but the connection broke up after building a separate parish until 1805.

Economy and infrastructure

Economically significant is besides agriculture, especially tourism. The proximity to major winter ski resorts such as St. Johann, Kirchdorf Kitzbuhel and Waidring is a popular tourist resort in the winter. In the summer the place is a nice goal by the proximity of the Wilder Kaiser, as well as through the beautiful trails along the renaturisierten Großache particularly for cyclists and walkers.

On the first Saturday in August each year there is in the quiet village of the nationally known " Summer Night Party " instead, which is organized by the numerous local clubs.
