Kladruby (Tachov District)

Kladruby ( German Kladrau ) is a city in the Czech Republic. It is located about five kilometers south of the city Stříbro at the Úhlavka and belongs to Okres Tachov. The place is situated on the Highway 5 / Europe 50th Street

On a blue background, a silver (white ) city wall with open pointed arch, in which prays on green grass surface an upstanding monk in a brown habit with raised hands. History

The place was first mentioned in connection with the founding of a monastery in Kladrau by Duke Vladislav I in 1115. Already in 1212 Kladrau was named as a city in 1233, the monastery church in the presence of King Wenceslas I. was consecrated. 1334 the Benedictine monastery of the court Wossy leasehold awarded to a Kladruby citizens. A parish church in Old Kladrau was named in 1344 for the first time. 1441 was abbot of Bussek Vrtbovská the subjects of the Monastery as a result of attacks by the Hussites under the generals Andreas Prokop a charter of freedom, by which the erbuntertänige population received relief in their duties and compulsory labor. 1566 a hospital was mentioned for the first time in a document.

Monastery

For the development of the city is the monastery Kladruby, which was founded as a monastery of the Order of the Benedictines in 1115 by Duke Vladislav I, of great importance. The church is a national cultural heritage today. The church was built in the Romanesque style during the 12th century and received its present appearance in the baroque gothic style in the years 1712 to 1726 by a native of Italy architect Jan Blazej Santini - Aichl.

He promoted the development of agriculture and trade relations of the city Kladrau. In Kladruby a brewery was built in 1864 in the former monastic convent. In the year 1918, when the Prince Windisch- Graetz in the course of land reform Czechoslovakia lost the headquarters of the family in Tachov, Ludwig Aladar moved from Windisch- Graetz after Kladruby and established there until the expropriation of property in favor of Czechoslovakia in 1945 a library and a family archive.
