Konstantinovsk

Konstantinowsk (Russian Константиновск ) is a city in Rostov Oblast (Russia) with 17,926 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 170 km northeast of the Oblasthauptstadt Rostov -on-Don on the right bank of the Don, above the confluence of the Seversky Donets.

Konstantinowsk is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

The nearest railway station is Ust- Donetskaya 25 kilometers north west.

History

1835 with the establishment of the First Don - circle ( okrugs ) of Donkosakengebietes the Staniza Wedjornikowskaja was determined to be the administrative center. Since there but there were no sufficient conditions for an extension of the building, it was decided at the same time, the location of which was founded in the 17th century Cossack village Babskaja (also Babinskaja ) to unite.

However, the union lasted until 1864, when the name change to the common name Konstantinovskaya, after the Grand Duke Konstantin Romanov took place.

1941 received the Staniza the status of a settlement of urban type and 1967 the municipal law.
