Tsimlyansk

Zimljansk (Russian Цимлянск ) is a city in Rostov Oblast (Russia) with 15,028 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 240 km northeast of the Oblasthauptstadt Rostov -on-Don on the right bank of the Don, at the northern end of the dam, named after the city Zimljansker reservoir.

Zimljansk is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

The city is located on the 1951 opened railway Morozovsk - Wolgodonsk - Kuberle, whose northern part Morozovsk - Wolgodonsk but with the 13 km long section on the top of the dam since the 1990s out of service, so that the nearest train station in the city Wolgodonsk on southern end of the dam is located.

History

1672 was in the Don Cossacks, the town of Ust- Zimla founded at the mouth of the river Zimla called in a row as Staniza Zimljanskaja.

With the construction of the dam Zimljansker 1948, the flooding of the Staniza apparent. Therefore, the place in 1950 was re- erected at the future north shore of the reservoir and received in 1952 the status of an urban-type settlement as Zimljansk. In 1961 the settlement of the municipal law.

In Zimljansk there are companies in the food industry ( wine, beer, dairy products ), a carpet factory, a ship repair yard and building materials industry.
